Two students from École William McDonald Middle School need your help as they compete in a national contest. Students Cassie Rogers and Kira Young are both participating in this year’s Young Citizens program. They are the only participants from the Northwest Territories this year. The program focuses on citizenship and is a complementary component to Heritage Fairs, an annual event where students present their research on Canadian heroes, legends and key events in Canadian history. As part of the project, participants make short videos about their topic and post them online. The submissions are then reviewed by a panel of judges for a chance to win a trip to Ottawa to attend Canada’s History Forum.
The public is encouraged to view the submissions and submit a vote for their favourite participants until midnight on June 22. A panel of judges will then review the videos and the results of the vote and select four winners. The lucky winners will receive a trip for two to Canada's History Forum in the fall. You can learn more about the program here, watch Cassie’s project here and watch Kira’s project here. To submit a vote, simply click the yellow “Vote” tab near the top right hand corner of each participant’s profile. Good luck to both participants!
