Peter Curran - Teacher - Sir John Franklin High School

Mr. Curran was born in Charlottetown and moved to Pine Point with his family as a young boy. When Pine Point was heading towards it's end, Peter's family moved to Yellowknife. He attended Mildred Hall from grade 5 to 6, and William McDonald Junior High School from grade 7 to 9. He graduated from École Sir John Franklin High School in 1994.

Mr. Curran obtained his teaching degree from the University of Calgary and then returned to the north to begin his teaching career. He has been a teacher at Sir John for 19 years now and is currently the English Language Arts Department Head. He is also the Graduation Coordinator which requires a lot of his own time. It is a large undertaking and we are very fortunate for his dedication. Another hat Mr. Curran wears at the school is a coaches hat. He is the boy's hockey coach and freely gives his early mornings to the team to run practices. Students know that Mr. Curran holds them to a higher standard. Some view his style as strict but all students respect Mr. Curran and work hard to achieve their best in his class. He not only teaches the English language, but inspires, motivates and prepares his students for the real world where there are deadlines and expectations.

It is our honour and pleasure to name Mr. Curran for this month's Staff Spotlight.
