To all parents and guardians, attached is a letter from Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) Minister R.J. Simpson regarding yesterday's recommendation to keep all NWT schools closed until the end of the 2019-2020 school year. YK1 continues to hold daily conference calls with ECE, the Northwest Territories Teachers' Association (NWTTA) and other regional education bodies to discuss shared priorities and objectives, and will keep parents and stakeholders informed on the following YK1 webpage.
A bulletin to clarify how school closures will impact students, and that will address the NWT's plan for continued student learning, will be released on March 30, 2020 here. This bulletin will explain how Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (JK-12) students’ academic results and high school course completion will be captured for the 2019-2020 school year, as well as information on continued JK-12 learning opportunities for students including home-based resources. All of this work will take time to develop, and we ask students, parents and school staff to be patient.
