Maureen Tonge - Ecole Sir John Franklin High School

Maureen was a part of the YK1 family for 28 years, spending her entire career teaching at Ecole Sir John Franklin High School. Maureen taught everything from Art to CALM, French and yoga. She always brought such spirit into her classroom. Maureen was the founder of the “Leaving a Legacy” art project, which now holds portraits of 58 people from the North who have influenced students. Maureen’s art students painted these portraits, which now hang above the main entrance of the high school. Maureen’s other passion was yoga. Starting about 10 years ago, she was able to bring this passion into the school, offering it as a course. When not teaching, Maureen could be found out at her cabin with her husband Robert enjoying the great outdoors.
