newsletter

Thank you very much for staying on top of our school news. Please remember that Wednesday, February 1st is a non-instructional day, meaning there is no school for students. Here is what we have on the go for the coming week:

Weekly News

This week is Literacy Week, and Wednesday is Read-Aloud Day. Since we aren't in session that day, we are hosting our event on Thursday. We will have a special set of morning announcements where a story will be read school-wide. Afterward, teachers will exchange classes so that students can have another adult read a favourite story to them. It promises to be a fun morning for everyone!

This is also the last week for you to place an order for your seeds for the PAC seed sale. You have until the end of the day on Tuesday to submit your orders. Be sure to use the link below, and when it's time to check out, select our school from the menu to make sure the PAC receives the fundraising share of the sale.

Call for Volunteers - School Breakfast Program

In early February, we hope to start offering our morning breakfast program to our students. The program will be open to anyone who wants to come in for a bite to eat before getting on with the school day (if there is a lot of demand, then we will ask students to clean up and head outside so that others can come in and have some breakfast).

In order to make this program a success, we need parent volunteers for the following tasks:

  • Parent volunteer coordinator - Arranges volunteer schedules, and generally makes sure the program runs smoothly. The coordinator is also the primary point of contact between the school staff, the PAC, and the volunteers themselves.
  • Supply and ingredient upkeep - This volunteer (or volunteers) coordinate the weekly order of groceries with the school's staff, and also arrange for pick-up, delivery, and stocking of supplies. The order itself will be placed and paid for by the school staff but we need someone to make sure we have enough food every week.
  • Breakfast Volunteers - We are hoping that there will be two volunteers each morning (this can be on a rotating schedule). We would like someone to come in from 7:30 to 8:30 to get things set up and be there for the first part of the morning. Ideally, a second volunteer would come from 7:45 to 8:45 and take care of clean up (we have dishwashers!!!). The food on offer will be healthy, self-serve or individually-packaged items. These volunteers are there to make sure the food is available, but food prep is not part of this task.

We are working closely with our PAC on this initiative. We ask any potential volunteers be connected to our school community (parents or extended family members such as grandparents). If you would like to know more about the program, or you would like to be one of our volunteers, we ask that you email our PAC directly at itlopac@gmail.com.
