Godi Enı̨thł’è - 22 au 29 septembre, 2023

It was great to finish our first full week of school. Classes are now in full-swing and our school's programs are gearing up! Here is the latest school news and also what we have for upcoming events. Thank you for visiting our site and staying informed about what is happening at École Įtł’ǫ̀. Please remember that there is no school on Monday, October 2nd in recognition of National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
National Truth and Reconciliation Day
Our school is holding its National Truth and Reconciliation Day ceremony at 2:00 on Friday, September 29th. While we hope to have our ceremony outdoors, we will make a final decision about that once we can confirm the air quality. We are pleased to have the Dene Drummers join us, and Miranda Currie is also coming to sing us her newest song on the subject of reconciliation. Instead of feeding the fire, we will be paying the land. Families are always welcome to join us for of school community events and we hope to see you there.
Breakfast Program
Our breakfast program is now in full swing. Thank you very much to our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) for organizing the parent volunteers who come and help every morning. These volunteers are a key part of our program's success. Please see this additional information from the PAC (below) and please sign up if you can give us a little of your time. The students really appreciate it.
The Ecole Itlo Breakfast Program is looking for volunteers! Breakfast is offered every morning to all students in the school kitchen. Parent volunteers are needed every morning from 7:45-8:45 am to set up, serve, and clean up after breakfast. It is a lovely way to get to know the school community.
If you are able to help out, please indicate your availability on this sign up sheet, which also has a link with more information about how the program runs. You can email the Parent Advisory Council (itlopac@gmail.com) with any questions. As well, please consider joining our Facebook group (Ecole Itlo PAC) to stay updated about upcoming school and PAC events.
Open House - Tuesday October 3rd
We are pleased to welcome families to attend our annual Open House on October 3rd. Families are invited into the school starting at 6:30 to visit and then head up to their child's classroom in time for the teachers' presentations that start shortly thereafter. Once done, there will be a transition time to allow parents to visit other classrooms (especially for parents with more than one child at the school). We plan to wrap up by 7:30 PM. Please come and visit, we look forward to seeing you!
PAC Meeting - Wednesday October 4th
Our PAC will hold its first meeting of the year on October 4th. Our meetings start at 7:00 PM and take place both online and in the school's staff room. We will post an agenda and a link to the online form of the meeting in next week's Godi Enı̨thł’è.
New CYC for École Įtł’ǫ̀
We are very pleased to have Kiera Hoekstra join us in her role as CYC. Kiera starts at the school next week, and will spend some time getting to know the staff and students. She has prepared a writeup to introduce herself, which is included below. Welcome Kiera!
Hello caregivers,
I am thrilled to be joining the École Įtłʼo school community offering counselling part-time. I am not new to the North but am back after some time away and am excited to work with children and families here again. I like to laugh, play, make art, talk about feelings and walk alongside families when they are going through difficult times. My therapy training is through the University of Toronto and I have been working in community mental health as a Child and Family therapist for the past four years. I typically like to collaborate with parents in any treatment plan when working with this age group when it makes sense to do so. I look forward to hearing from you if you need support either for your child to access at school or through our community-based office located in the Goga Cho Building. I only provide therapy in English, however, I am currently enrolled in French lessons so I can try to practice my French in the hallways. You can reach me directly at the information below or you can talk to your child’s teacher or other school staff you trust about accessing the service.
