Godi Enı̨thł’è - 9 au 16 décembre, 2022

snowman

As of today, there are only seven days of school left before the Winter Break. Therefore, this will be our last Godi Enı̨thł’è for 2022. Our next publication will come out early in the New Year, before the first day of school on January 5th. Thank you very much to our families and wider community for the support you give to your children every day. Your support helps to make the students the best learners possible, and makes our jobs as educators that much more easy. Also, we wish all of our families safe and happy holidays. Please remember that there is no school from December 21st, 2022 to January 4th, 2023 inclusive. Here is the news for this week and next...

New Faces at École Įtł’ǫ̀ in January

As many of you are aware, Mme Chrystel Souren took a leave for the remainder of the year, and M Mory will be leaving us at the start of the Winter Break. Since learning of these departures, we have been hard at work trying to find suitable replacements. Today we are pleased to announce that two experienced teachers will join our staff in January. Mme Marie Gabrielle Samson will be joining us from Nova Scotia and will take over the Grade Four class. Mme Padminnie Paniken will be joining us from British Columbia and will be taking over the teaching in M Mory's class. We would also like to thank Mme Emma Ambury who agreed to step in with the Grade fours to provide consistency until we could find a replacement. Finally, we would like to wish M Mory all the best as he moved on to new challenges.

Minecraft and Chess Clubs

Our Minecraft and Chess clubs are very popular with our students, and we have up to 50 students coming to either of these clubs on any given day. Starting next week, we are putting on extra days for Minecraft and Chess clubs. On Monday at the first recess, we are asking any students interested in Minecraft club to come to the school's main foyer. We will have a very short meeting and students will be able to choose if they come to the Monday, or Tuesday Minecraft club (for now, students can only come to one of the two days for Minecraft club, not both). We will hold a similar meeting for our Chess club students on Tuesday, so that they can let us know if they would prefer to come to the Chess club offered on Thursday, or the new session we are opening at lunch on Fridays. If you have a child interested in either of these clubs, please let them know about these important meetings.

Winter Concert

We are very excited to be so close to our Winter Concert. This is for families of JK-2 students, and the doors open at 6:00. The performance is scheduled to start at 6:30. As families of our performers arrive, we are asking them to take their children to their regular classrooms before finding seating in the gym. Once a group has finished performing, their teachers will take them back up to the classroom. We do have a grand finale planned where all students will be on stage at once. At its conclusion, students will be taken back to class where their families can pick them up. Students and staff are working hard to put on this performance, and we appreciate all spectators remaining until the end of the show. Please remember also that we are also setting out bins at the performance for our Holiday Food Drive. There is no price for admission, but we would like to fill those bins for Yellowknife Food Rescue. Thanks for your support!

School-Wide Pajama Day

We are having a school-wide pajama day for our students and staff on the last day of classes, Tuesday December 20th. Students will participate in various activities in the morning. In the afternoon, there are school-wide activities being planned so that everyone has a nice send-off for the Winter Break. Please remind your children to dress in their coziest pajamas and slippers!

Holiday Equipment Rentals - Updated Information - Interac E-Payments!

We originally posted to our school website last week about the upcoming holiday equipment rentals. But since then there has been an important change! We are now able to accept Interac e-payments. As such, the payment information below has been updated. Since we announced cash payments last week, we will still accept them for any rental requests. However, our preference is to receive payments by Interac.

We are pleased to announce the return of our equipment rental program during the upcoming Winter Break. École Įtł'ǫ̀ and our PAC volunteers are making the school’s skis and snowshoes available for loan to members of our school community. If you are an  École Įtł'ǫ̀  family or staff member, you can request to borrow the equipment for the duration of the holiday season. Here’s how it works:

  • You may request one or more sets of skis or snowshoes to borrow. Requests are done using the online form (you will find the link below). Requests cannot be taken by phone or by email.
  • You must make your request before the end of the day on Monday, December 12th.
  • You will receive a confirmation of your request and the availability of equipment by the evening of Thursday, December 15th.
  • Pickup is from 3:30 to 5:30 PM on Frıday, December 16th, and will take place at the side entry doors of the school, on the main courtyard (where our JK-2 students enter and leave)
  • All equipment must be returned to the school on Sunday, Thursday January 5th between 3:30 and 5:30 PM, again at the school's side doors
  • We are lending out our equipment sized for both children and adults. However, please note that the amount of available adult-sized equipment is very limited.

Donation rates for skis and snowshoes are as follows:

  • Skis - $40 for the first pair (including boots and poles), and $30 for each additional set rented by an individual family.
  • Snowshoes - $30 for the first pair, and $20 for each additional pair rented by an individual family.
  • UPDATE! We prefer to accept donations by Interac e-payment. In light of this change, we will send you payment instructions by email (for cash cash or Interac) once your rental is confirmed late next week.

Anyone borrowing equipment from the school accepts full responsibility for any damage and breakage and agrees to pay the full replacement cost of equipment that is damaged, lost, or stolen.

All funds collected through these donations will be allocated to the maintenance of the existing equipment, and its replacement when it is worn out.

Please use this form in order to make your equipment request.

If you have questions, it is best to send them to us by email during these busy times. You can reach us at itlo@yk1.nt.ca.
