2025 Reading Challenge

📚 The 2025 Reading Challenge starts on January 27 - Family Literacy Day and runs until March 31.

📚 The point of the Challenge is to get SJF students and staff hyped about reading. Each year, I get questions about what types of books count. Answer? All books! We aren't discriminating:

✔️French books count

✔️Graphic novels count

✔️Audiobooks count

✔️Books in languages other than English count

✔️Short books count (yes, count the ones you read to your children before bed!)

✔️Manga counts

✔️Long books count

✔️Fiction, non-fiction counts

✔️Romance books that you don't want people to know you are reading count (no one but me sees the titles and I won't judge!)

✔️...if it looks/sounds like a book, IT COUNTS!

Here’s the LINK to the FORM:

📚 Here's how it works:

1) Read a book.

2) Scan the QR code (on posters) to access the Google form to record your book.

3) Repeat many, many times.

Like last year, we will award weekly prizes to our MVPs.

📚 In the end, whichever school has the highest average reading  (number of books read divided by the number of participants) wins.

Not to get too competitive, but it's not to our advantage to have a bunch of kids recording only 1 book. So, while I want you to encourage your students to participate, please don't force them to record their novel study. We want kids to be motivated to read on their own.

📚 Background

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Reading Challenge, it was born as a competition between Sir John and St. Pat's during the 2020 COVID lockdown and then was the premier (and only) sporting event in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Three years ago, we acquired an awesome trophy...and then lost it to St. Pat's. Heartbreakingly (at least for me), I (we) still don't have my (our) trophy back

📚 If you have questions, please email Ms. Robson or check in with Ms. Daly!
