Fine Arts
General Music 10 - Guitar
General Music is an optional 3 credit fine arts course. Students in guitar class will explore the guitar through three foundational areas of study: performance, fundamentals, and analysis.
Music 10 - Band for Grade 10 students
Music 10 is a 5 credit fine arts course. Students will explore their chosen band instrument through three foundational areas of study: performance, fundamentals, and analysis. Performances will cover technique and repertoire for the selected instrument.
Band 9 - Band for Grade 9 students
Music 9 is a preparation course designed for students who have had less than 3 years of playing experience on their instrument.
Music 20/30 - Band for Grade 11 and 12 students
Music 20/30 is a 5 credit fine arts course. Students will explore their chosen band instrument through three foundational areas of study: performance, fundamentals, and analysis. Performance will cover technique and repretoire for the selected instrument. Participation in the school's concert band is mandatory for this course.
Art 9
Art 9 is an option that takes place every other day for the full semester. Grade 9 students are introduced to the Language of Art: The Elements and Principles of Design through video and accompanying worksheets, group discussions, art analysis, and hands-on projects.
Drama 9
The Drama 9 program introduces students to theatrical basics and samples various areas of the theatre including, warm-up, improvisation, simple and complex scripted scenes, and stage blocking and terminology.
Drama 10
This program is designed to cover a range of drama techniques and culminates with a performance. Those in the drama 10 class offered in the Fall will be involved with the Senior class and expected to work on the Children's Theatre Festival.
Drama 20
This program covers a range of drama techniques and objectives. More emphasis is placed on the development of the student as "actor" and really challenges them to build and create characters. The main project of focus is the Children's Theatre Festival.
Drama 30
This course follows the same outline as the Drama 20 program but challenges the growth of the actor and ability to incorporate previous learning objectives.
Drama Technologies
This class focuses on the "behind the scenes" of a theatre production. Explore the technical aspects of lighting, sound, set preparation, props, costume, set painting and design.
Costume Design/Fashion Studies
This class offers an orientation of the jobs in the theatre, and the work required in creating and organizing costumes for a show.
Spring Musical or Production
Each year the Drama Department selects a production to be performed at NACC in April. Auditions are conducted in December and followed with an intense rehearsal of singing, dancing and acting.
