School Support Declarations

District Office

If you are a property owner in Yellowknife, you will receive an Assessment Notice from the City (usually in January each year).

All property owners in Yellowknife have the option of allocating where their school property taxes are sent. There are three options in total:

  1. 100% allocation to either Yellowknife Education District No. 1 (YK1) or Yellowknife Catholic Schools;
  2. Allocation split between the two school districts by enrolment; or
  3. A custom allocation declaration determined by the property owner.

If a property owner does not declare a specific school tax support, taxes will automatically be allocated by enrolment to each school board.

Anyone wishing to change their support must complete a School Support Declaration Form and file it with the Secretary of the Board of Revision within 45 days of the mailing date of the property assessment. Completed forms can be emailed to cityclerk@yellowknife.ca, dropped off at City Hall, faxed to (867) 920-5649, or mailed to the City of Yellowknife, P.O. Box 580, Yellowknife, NT, X1A 2N4

The benefits of specifically directing your school tax dollars include continued funding for all the exceptional programs available to YK1 students, including French Immersion, Intensive and Post-Intensive French, Indigenous Education, Athletic Excellence, Music, Drama, Advanced Placement, and much more.

YK1 students, staff and Board of Trustees appreciate your continued support of YK1 schools and programs.
